Physical Therapy
Physical Therapists specialize in the evaluation and treatment of all joints in the body including the back. Gait evaluations are done and appropriate assistive devices are recommended for a safe and energy conserving gait pattern.
Physical Therapy uses various physical sciences - from whence this field derives its' name - such as heat, cold, ultrasound, whirlpool and electrical stimulation to decrease pain and spasm; and to increase circulation to promote healing and decrease swelling caused by an injury. Exercises are an important part of rehabilitation to strengthen muscles that are weakened and to promote range of motion of body parts that have lost mobility.
At BAMC, we have 4 Physical Therapists and 2 Physical Therapist Assistants that see patients on a 5-day per week basis. Office hours are from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday to Friday. Besides seeing patients in our outpatient therapy department, the therapists also provide treatment to inpatients, swing bed patients and provide physical therapy services to two area nursing homes. We also have regularly scheduled times to work with patients in the heated therapeutic pool. An order from a medical provider is necessary before you can undergo Physical Therapy.
